Oakville Festivals of Film & Art
Broadcast Spot
Project Title: Rogues and Heroes

About the Project
The Oakville Festivals of Film & Art (OFFA) needed help to create a broadcast spot for their 1st festival. This was an exciting opportunity to help a new arts and culture organization. OFFA had already developed a creative concept and they’d shot lovely footage to represent the theme of ‘dare to be different’. They thought they simply needed someone to edit the spot for broadcast but as work began, we saw opportunities to improve the project.
The supplied footage, although nicely conceived, had been shot without an adequate lighting and grip set-up and the attempt to create atmospheric smoke had not produced the desired look. Using subtle digital touch-ups, I corrected some lighting issues and digitally augmented the smoke effect to create some atmosphere. Then I used light flare effects to marry the location footage with a shot of an old film projector. The resulting spot belies its modest budget.
The festival was a big success due to the OFFA team’s hard work but we also like to think the spot helped promote the festival and sell tickets. Thanks OFFA for letting me work on this fun project.[/one_half]
